A note from our Pastor
We can no longer assume that every church has built its foundation on Jesus, nor that every pastor preaches the Bible. I understand how difficult it can be to find a church home for you and your family. At Hilltop, you can rest assured that Christianity is never "progressive," and that truth does not change based on cultural opinions. Jesus famously said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” This means that there is ultimate truth, and His name is Jesus Christ. It also means that the only way to God is through Him and Him alone.
In Jesus and Jesus alone, we have freedom from sin. In Jesus, we have hope for the future. By His power, we are made whole. By His stripes, we can experience His healing power in our bodies today.
John 1:14 tells us, “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
We preach in the name of Jesus. We pray in the name of Jesus. We are able to walk in abundant life because of Jesus.
Jesus never sacrificed TRUTH on the altar of LOVE. He spoke the truth in love! We are called to do the same.
WE BELIEVE
THE BIBLE
We believe that the Bible is God’s Word. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives.
THE TRINITY
We believe in one eternal God who created everything. He exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. He is totally loving and completely holy.
SIN
We believe that sin has separated us from God and His purpose for our lives.
JESUS
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ as both God and man is the only One who can reconcile us to God. He lived a sinless life, died on the cross in our place and rose again.
FORGIVENESS
We believe that in order to receive forgiveness and the ‘new birth’, we must repent of our sins, believe in Jesus and submit to His will for our lives.
BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that in order to live the holy and fruitful lives that God intends for us, we should be baptised in water and be filled with the power of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit enables us to use spiritual gifts.
THE CHURCH
We believe in the power and significance of the Church and the necessity of believers to meet regularly together for fellowship and prayer.
OUR PURPOSE
We believe that God created each of us on purpose for a purpose. He has individually equipped us so that we can successfully achieve His purpose for our lives, which is to worship God, fulfill our role in the Church and serve the community in which we live through our unique gifting/calling.
MARRIAGE
We believe that God’s intentional design for marriage was for one man and one woman to come together through an exclusive covenant and become one.
SEX/HOMOSEXUALITY
We believe that God designed sex to be enjoyed in the confines of a marriage, between one man and one woman. Any and all other expressions of sexuality are outside of God’s design and purpose for our lives. This includes homosexuality, sex before marriage, infidelity and marriage to more than one person.
GENDER
We believe that God intentionally assigned our gender, and that our God-given gender is a part of our God-given purpose. We are each made either male or female by God, both carrying attributes of His image and likeness. Men and women are equal in value but different in attributes, with each carrying distinct aspects of God’s image. We will never be able to carry attributes that God did not bestow on us from birth. Psalm 139 tells us that God knit us together in our mother’s womb; in other words, He was intentional with our design. Therefore, attempting to change our gender through surgery or identification is a rejection of God’s design and plan for a person’s life. As such, we believe that encouragement or participation in transgenderism is a sinful pursuit.
ABORTION
We believe God is the creator and author of all life. That all life is precious and important to God. As such we believe Biblically that abortion is a sin. We understand this is a difficult topic for many and that there are those who have already made this choice. We also believe there is grace and forgiveness for all those who have made this decision in the past and that God has an amazing future prepared for you!
PHYSICAL HEALING
We believe that God wants to heal and transform us, not just for our own well-being, but so that we can live healthy and abundant lives that enable us to serve others more effectively. God's desire is for us to experience wholeness in every aspect of our being—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
ETERNITY
We believe that our eternal destination, either Heaven or hell, is determined by our response to Jesus. We cannot earn eternity with God; it is a free gift offered to us by Jesus through His death and resurrection. We also have the choice of whether to accept that gift or not. Salvation is not about saying a special prayer, but rather a choice to live a life with and for God. God does not send anyone to hell; rather, we have the choice to accept His Son or reject His gift.
THE RETURN OF JESUS
We believe that Jesus is coming back again, just as He promised. This return will be a moment of fulfillment, as He will return in glory to establish His Kingdom in its fullness. His return is a cornerstone of our faith and a source of hope for all believers. Jesus promised that He would not leave us forever and that He would come again to take His followers to be with Him for eternity. His second coming will bring justice, restore peace, and bring an end to suffering and sin. Until that time, we are called to live in anticipation and faithfully serving Him and sharing His message with others.
WOMEN IN MINISTRY
We believe that men and women are uniquely designed by God, each carrying different attributes of God’s image and likeness, and both helping to bring about God’s great purposes on Earth. We believe women can and should use their pastoral and leadership gifts both in the world and within the church. We are committed to empowering women to fulfill all that God has called them to. Women do not receive a lesser calling than men, nor is a woman’s role limited to complementing a man’s calling. Women are vital to building God’s Kingdom. This is modeled in both the Old and New Testaments. However, to remain biblically consistent, those gifts should be used under the leadership of a male lead pastor.
